I haven’t written a blog in a while so I thought Id write one whilst me and Matt are driving to York and I have a bit of free time. You’re probably thinking what a random title hopefully quite a few of you will be able to relate to it once I start writing and I’m going to put some handy tips which hopefully may help a few people when you feel like I do. Recently I’ve been really busy I’ve been working as usual and had quite a few concerts Doncaster last weekend and I’ve been trying to apply for new jobs and work out the prospect of moving out at the end of the summer. Add on to that Mollie’s birthday book. The dyspraxic/dyslexic brain sometimes finds all of that hard to process add with it a good helping of anxiety and social anxiety and what is the final mixture? It’s chaos or a head feeling like it’s a jumble of spaghetti the anxiety adding panic attacks and a huge wide mix of emotions such as tears and mood swings. I know not all of you reading this will have dyslexia or dyspraxia but I know a lot of you are really stressed about exams at the moment and have a lot of different subjects to revise for and it can seem really overwhelming especially if your feel like you’re under so much pressure. I know how exactly how that feels I always want to try my best at things and have the end result be the best of my ability and outside influences can add to that pressure. Sometimes when you have dyslexia/dyspraxia it can feel like you’re constantly trying to prove people wrong and showing the outside world what you can do and trying to prove to people that you aren’t stupid. Even though there is more awareness I think especially in the adult world there is expectation that you’re going to be able to do things like everyone else does all the time at the same speed as other people but in reality even with coping strategies the brain takes longer to process especially when put under pressure or where there is a lot of background noise. So here comes my advice how to manage situations like this it’s not easy ill be honest and I’m still learning myself but hopefully the advice I give here will help people. The main advice is to take a breather and try not to let everything build up at once easier said than done I know. Make sure you fit in time to do do other stuff and get some fresh air even if its just going in your garden for a little while. Second bit of advice is not to beat yourself up, and try not to overthink and if you’re in that mind frame talk to someone I know a lot of people feel like they don’t want to bother others. Bug you’d be suprised how many people feel exactly the same way as you do and talking about how you feel to someone you can get support and share strategies to deal with the emotions. My third bit of advice is to write lists and post it notes and order in priority so that you do the thjngs that desperately need doing and went forgotten about. The less important things can be left till another day or when you have more time. If you do have a leading challenge don’t feel scared to talk to people about how you feel at times like this as it will help educate others what it’s really like to struggle and it will make you feel so much better. Woah this blog is long. Hopefully it will have helped people and feel free to talk to me at anytime I’m here to listen and not judge.
